Southeast Herzegovina

Map of Southeast Herzegovina

The entire region of southeast Herzegovina is characterized by a Mediterranean climate, rocky landscapes, many sunny days, multitude of historical monuments and the production of wine.

The Trebišnjica River (1), which flows east to west through the Popovo Field (bs. polje), gives life to the whole region. At the western end of the Popovo Field, halfway between Trebinje and Stolac, is Vjetrenica (2), the most famous cave in BiH. The town of Trebinje (3) is a regional center - the largest and most beautiful town in east Herzegovina. It was founded on the banks of the Trebišnjica River.

The area surrounding Trebinje offers the chance to stop by vineyards and wineries (4), visit the Lastva excursion area (5), travel to monasteries and hike Mt. Leotar.
