The mountains of Jahorina and Romanija dominate the region east of Sarajevo. Jahorina (1) is one of the most visited mountains in BiH. As a result of its favorable terrain, mild climate and abundance of snow, Jahorina has become BiH's largest ski resort, and one of the most popular in the Balkans (2). In the Gola Jahorina area, at the base of the ski slopes, you'll find numerous hotels, shops and restaurants. To the north of Jahorina is Mt. Romanija (3), which offers many possibilities for hiking, climbing, spelunking and - on Romanija's northern slopes - visiting an area where wild horses roam.
In the village of Sumbolovac, 1 km from the main road between Sarajevo and Sokolac, is the Orlovača Cave, one of the largest cave systems in BiH. The cave has a total length of over 2.5 km, and the first 560 m are accessible to tourists. This initial section is lit and has a concrete path. Currently, visiting the cave is only possible by appointment with the tourist agency of the municipality of Pale.
